Baywatch is an action comedy film based on the TV series Baywatch. The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach.
The film was released on May 25, 2017.
Plot[]
Facing budget cuts, Baywatch leader Captain Don Thorpe recruits disgraced Olympian Matt Brody as the new face of the organization, betting that rehabilitating his "bad boy" image will give Baywatch a much-needed public relations boost. However, Brody's condescending attitude clashes with the rest of the Baywatch team, including longtime squad leader Mitch Buchannon, and the two begin to butt heads. But when a murder victim washes up on the beach, Buchannon defies the authorities by deciding to investigate the crime, and the team must learn to work together to take down the criminals responsible.

Original Mitch Buchannon actor David Hasselhoff and original C.J. Parker actress Pamela Anderson also appear in the film as Mitch, The Mentor and Captain Casey Jean Parker.[1][2]
Production[]
In 2004, DreamWorks announced they had bought the rights to create a new theatrical Baywatch movie.[3][4] In 2006, It was not announced, however, whether any original cast members would return for the movie or if it would follow the same storyline which was slated for release in 2006 with predicted that David Hasselhoff would reprise his role of Mitch Buchannon and Jessica Simpson was officially cast as C.J. Parker and a cameo appearance by Pamela Anderson, Anderson later was against the movie version.[5][6][7] In 2007, Keeley Hazell has said numerous times in FHM Australia that she was contracted to appear in the movie.[8] In 2009, the film version was reported to be a comedy with Jeremy Garelick who rewrote of The Hangover as the writer and director with a 2010 release, then was changed to 2012.[9] In 2012, Reno 911! co-creator and star Robert Ben Garant was hired to direct the film version for Paramount Pictures[10] with Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake being rumored to appear in the film.[11][12] In 2014, it was announced that Paramount was moving forward with its big-screen adaptation of Baywatch and loosely attached Dwayne Johnson to the project.[13][14][15] The studio also has hired Justin Malen to rewrite and attached the comedy writing team of Sean Anders and John Morris to direct. In 2015, it was announced that Seth Gordon would direct with Damian Shannon and Mark Swift having written the latest script with Dwayne Johnson still attached to star.[16] It was also announced that Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario were cast in the film, Efron as a young rule-flouting hothead lifeguard who teams with Johnson as a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon[17] and Daddario as Summer Quinn, a role originally portrayed by Nicole Eggert on the show[18] after beaten out Nina Dobrev, Ashley Benson, Alexandra Shipp, Shelley Hennig, Bianca Santos and Denyse Tontz with the possibility that some of them could join the film in different roles and other unnamed actresses could be in the running as well.[19] Johnson also announced that the film would be R-Rated and revealed the casting of C.J. and other roles would soon be announced.[20][21] Reportedly, that Kelly Brook was in contention to star in the film as C.J. Parker, with Kate Upton and Charlotte McKinney also on the shortlist,[22][23] but Brook denied the rumor the following day on Instagram. Brook later confirmed that she had read the script but was still uncertain if she would appear.[24] On January 4, 2016, Johnson announced that actress and model Kelly Rohrbach was cast as C.J. for the film.[25][26][27][28] On January 11, 2016, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Priyanka Chopra was in talks to appear in the film, possibly as a villain.[29] On January 20, 2016, Ilfenesh Hadera joined the cast as Stef, the love interest of Dwayne Johnson's character[30][31] and a release date of May 19, 2017 was announced.[32] In January of 2016, the film announced that production will begin in March. The film is hosting an open casting call for extras in the Savannah, Georgia area in January 2016 with a filming schedule running March through May in both the Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia areas.[33] On January 27, 2016, Variety reports that Jon Bass is cast as Ronnie, who’s described as funny, awkward and a skilled disco dancer. He falls in love with Rohrbach’s C.J. Parker character at the beach.[34] On February 12, 2016, Variety reports that Hannibal Buress is cast as one of the locals in the bay community.[35] On February 16, 2016, Johnson announces Priyanka Chopra is cast as the film's villain.[36][37][38] On March 2, 2016, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II joined the cast as Ellerbee, a cool cop who is constantly reminding Mitch that he has no real authority over the bay.[39] Johnson announced on his Facebook page that David Hasselhoff will have a role in the film.[1] In March 2016, Jack Kesy, Amin Joseph and Belinda Peregrín were cast in the film.[40][41] Vine star Logan Paul announced that he is in the film but his scenes were later cut.[42][43][44][45] Izabel Goulart and Charlotte McKinney also joined the cast.[46][47]
